Have you noticed that plants look different at various stages of their life cycle? And that plants living in different environments have different characteristics? Plant seeds also have various structural features—adaptations—that help them reproduce in their specific habitats.
This material package focuses especially on the seeds of flowering plants and their adaptations.
The package includes a science introduction, the Seed Adventure card game, BINGO, and additional task ideas.
The activities are suitable for all ages, and the lesson plan based on the science introduction can be completed in one class period (45 minutes).
Science Introduction slides and Teacher Slides:
The introduction interactively covers background knowledge about plant evolution and various adaptations. The Seed Adventure card game is part of the full lesson.
Seed Adventure Card Game Cards:
Print double-sided on A4 paper, cut, and laminate the cards. The cards are designed to support multiple different games. Detailed instructions for the games can be found on the cards and in a separate instruction file below.
Tip! The easiest and fastest way to cut the cards is with a paper cutter, and laminate two side-by-side in A5-sized pouches.
Instructions and Correct Answers for the Seed Adventure Cards:
In addition to the Seed Adventure task, these cards can also be used to play BINGO (instructions below), What Plant Am I?, Flower Battle, and as a tool for plant survey tasks. Detailed instructions for the different games are in the instruction file.
BINGO (Game Tokens, print double-sided):
Using the bingo boards and the flowering images from the Seed Adventure plant cards, you can create an engaging bingo game. There are 34 different boards, enough for a full class.
Place the flower images face down on a table or in a box and draw one at a time. Anyone with the drawn flower image on their board places a token on that flower. The first student to get four tokens in a row shouts “BINGO!” and wins the game.
