& minisymposium 23. 3. 2023 ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° What is the language of lichen? How do biological interactions shape the evolution of organisms and maintain biodiversity? What can we learn from the social life of microbial communities, or what kind of cultures build from human-insect interaction? How do the disciplines of art and science meet each other? Exhibition and public program in March 2023 is a festive month marking our four years of work together as scientists and artists in Evolution in Action-project and promoting awareness of evolutionary processes and biodiversity. For the exhibition Communities of Coexistence we have invited five artists and researchers – Aistė Ambrazevičiūtė, Riina Hannula, Alma Heikkilä, Melliferopolis (Christina Stadlbauer & Ulla Taipale) – whose art works and practices engage with themes such as communities, interactions between species, symbioses, biodiversity and evolution. ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° Here you can dive deeper into artists’ practices and exhibited artworks through our conversations with each of them: Aistė Ambrazevičiūtė Riina Hannula Alma Heikkilä Melliferopolis (Christina Stadlbauer & Ulla Taipale) ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° Public program of the exhibition consists of school workshops, and on 7th of March Microbial Medi(t)ation, a case study as a part of Riina Hannula’s doctoral thesis, to University of Helsinki sociology department. Registration details for the workshop and the case study below. Program will end with the minisymposium Engagement in collective acts: multidisciplinary views on 23rd of March (12:00 - 17:00). The minisymposium will bring together four invited speakers from different disciplines who all share the interest to understand the different aspects of collective acts within and among species and sustainable use of common resources: Visual Artist Alma Heikkilä, Professor Heikki Helanterä (Ecology and Genetics Research unit, University of Oulu) and Researcher Henrika Ylirisku (HELSUS, Department of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki).
